Full Job Description

Working on installation, repair and maintenance of heavy-duty gas & steam turbines and generators. Completing component/system test certificates as required for the outage quality control packs. Using precision tools and measuring equipment for inspection tasks. Performing safely a wide variety of tasks to dismantle and assemble complex rotating machines such as hydraulic torque and tension bolting, flange works, hot works, shaft alignment. Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with company and site-specific safety and field service quality procedures.

Mitsubishi will develop the successful Apprentice to be capable of the following skills and abilities:

  • Complete CCNSG and/or IOSH Health and Safety training

  • Comply with HSE procedures

  • Comply and work within Permit to Work Systems

  • Basic Mechanical Fitting Work

  • Pipework assembly

  • Use of Torque Wrenches, Hydraulic Tensioning and Hytorc

  • Tightening sequences of casings

  • Induction and naked Flame Heating for bolt removal

  • Bolt Cleaning and management of refurbished parts

  • Borescope work and Foreign Media Exclusion controls

  • Lifting, Slinging & Crane Driver course

  • Inspection of parts (with MPW Inspectors)

  • Penetrant Test for Non-Destructive Testing

  • Sequencing of Hot Parts (handling and care of Combustor Parts)

  • Turbine Blade Ring Overhaul & Vane assembly

  • Lifting, Slinging & Crane Driver course

  • Blading of Turbine and Compressor sections of rotor

  • High Speed Coupling assembly

  • Disassembly, Overhaul and Assemble Combustion System

  • Picking parts from Drawing Book/ Parts Catalogue

  • Confirming clearances from Engineering Drawings

  • Reading and following Piping & Instrumentation Drawings

  • Use of Drawing Database and Document control system

  • Momentum charts and Balance Theory for Blading

  • Alignment of Plant and Equipment

  • Balance of Plant overhaul (Valves, Fans, Motors, Pumps and Accumulators), understanding GT Systems function

  • Fault finding

  • Reporting, NCR process

  • Contact check and adjust loading of white metal journal bearings

  • Operation and Maintenance regime of Gas Turbine


  • Working week:

    Standard 38 hour working week

    Mitsubishi are recruiting apprentices to work predominantly with the Field Service Gas Turbine Team but may also be expected to develop other skills as part of wider Field Service and business needs. This person will be allocated as Technician in UK project and/or Supervisor/Technician in projects based in the following areas to support the local manpower. Saltend (Hull) Damehead (Kent) Huntstown (Dublin) and Great Island (Wexford)

    Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 16:30 - 30minute lunch unpaid

    Friday 08:00 to 14:30 - 30 minute lunch unpaid

    Expected to work overtime paid at 1.5, 2.0 rates.

    Site work is typically 10 hour shifts 6 days a week.

    Hourly rate of pay:

    £9.00 or £11.44 depending on age

    Premium outage rate will apply for Field Work increase take home pay

    Per Diem will be paid during Field Work

    Passports, VISA, Flights, door to door travel, hire cars are all paid by the company
