Full Job Description

Thorpe House is a small family run business comprising of a 26 bed residential home for adults with chronic and enduring mental health issues, generally with a long term placement. Included in the facilities at Thorpe House there is the main building where a majority of the residents reside. On the site there is also the barn and coach house which is similar to bedsit type accommodation but also includes a therapeutic kitchen and separate laundry room. Thorpe House is an innovative mental health unit which strives to develop and change with the ever changing health industry to provide the best care and maximise independence for all residents. We are currently looking for a flexible, self-driven Occupational Therapist with excellent time management skills to join our team. As an Occupational Therapist working at Thorpe House you will
provide direct clinical care and our aim is to promote independence, maintain or improve skills in relation to activities of daily living and enable community integration. The Occupational Therapist will carry out functional assessments in a variety of environments such as the therapeutic kitchen, in the local community and laundry room with the use of MOHO. The successful candidate will plan and implement occupation focussed intervention for residents with chronic mental health issues whilst assessing risk and promoting positive risk taking. There may times when you may need to complete generic work to ensure the service runs effectively and residents needs are met. You will develop knowledge in relation to mental health conditions but also in relation to a wide variety of physical health issues and the impact on occupational performance. You will have support from the Occupational Therapy Team and wider team at Thorpe House, where regular clinical supervision will be provided. There is

opportunity for CPD including student education, internal and external training, as well as opportunities to attend conferences to develop in areas of interest and relevant to the role. At Thorpe House we have our own preceptorship process for all newly qualified Occupational Therapists to consolidate core skills. The successful candidate will be a registered Occupational Therapist with the HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) or in the process of registering. It is essential to understand Occupational Therapy process/interventions as well as have excellent communication with exceptional time management skills. An ability to work with multidiscipline teams as well as taking a hands on approach is essential and experience working in a mental health field is desirable. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check and an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance. Hours: 22.5 hours a week

across 3 shifts. Currently, this would be Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday but this can be negotiated if needed. There is a requirement to work 1 weekend day every month and 1 later Wednesday shift every month on a rolling rota.
