Full Job Description

We are excited to be recruiting for a Compliance Manager to join our Compliance team at our Bristol Head Office. This is a full-time permanent role and offers the benefits of flexible hybrid working. Typically, this requires 2 days in our Bristol or London office per week with a choice of working from home on the other days (following an initial induction period).

The Compliance manager is a second line role sitting in Triodos Bank UK's (TBUK) Compliance team within the wider Risk department. Reporting to the Senior Compliance manager, the successful candidate will provide advice, guidance, and assurance across the TBUK business, aiding in ensuring ongoing compliance with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.

The prime responsibility of the role holder will be to oversee first-line activities and report on the effectiveness of systems and controls, with a focus on financial crime risks. They will play a key role in supporting the first line to manage compliance risks, challenging, and influencing stakeholders in a collaborative manner. Additionally, they will provide technical advice and guidance to support projects and address individual topic-driven queries.

In addition, key responsibilities will require you to:

  • Schedule, develop and maintain the UK Compliance monitoring plan, using a risk-based approach within the parameters of the TBUK risk appetite, to structure, deliver, and report against the agreed monitoring plan.

  • Lead TBUK Compliance monitoring reviews across all areas of TBUK, using the TBUK Risk Management Framework to establish and report on areas of risk. Interaction with Group Compliance is required on a regular basis to fulfil the Group Compliance Monitoring Plan.

  • Deliver 2nd line assurance over 1st line compliance and conduct related activity.

  • Support the Senior Legal and Compliance Manager by maintaining oversight of the operational effectiveness of TBUK systems and controls designed to achieve compliance with UK regulatory requirements.

  • Assist in preparing regulatory notices to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as part of TBUK's statutory reporting requirements.

  • Develop and maintain frameworks and policies, including the provision of advice and guidance for other business areas, where required.

  • Produce required reports and action plans, including for Group Compliance and, where required, periodic reports for TBUK governance fora including the TBUK Audit and Risk Committee and Board. Reporting output must include analysis of current risk exposure and potential mitigation measures.

  • Work with business and functional areas to agree clear and timely action plans, with appropriate owners, to mitigate compliance risk exposure identified to be outside of the Triodos risk appetite during Compliance engagement/oversight and monitoring activities.

  • Comply with all regulatory obligations and internal governance to help ensure ethical behaviour, working to deliver good customer outcomes and avoiding foreseeable harm in line with Triodos' practice of putting customers at the heart of what we do.

To be successful in this role you have relevant experience within compliance-related roles in financial services, ideally within retail banking, with a deep understanding of frameworks and operational risk controls. You should have a proven track record in overseeing financial crime and compliance, providing project support, and offering detailed advice concerning banking and investment products.

  • Your expertise should extend to working with Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) principles and regulations, as well as anti-money laundering (AML) principles, fraud, and sanctions legislation, specifically related to TBUK's retail banking activities within the market. A pragmatic view of risk and experience in remediating out-of-appetite risk exposure is essential.

You will be capable of drafting, reviewing, and overseeing compliance reporting, both thematic and dashboard-driven, with strong attention to detail in disseminating complex legal regulatory information and seeing tasks to completion. Additionally, you should have experience in regulatory horizon scanning and analysing complex regulatory proposals, rules, and guidance.

Have the ability to interact with all levels of the business with credibility and friendly professionalism and create clear, realistic expectations, and challenge or escalate issues where necessary. Possessing a related qualification is advantageous.
