Full Job Description

The Court IDVA offers support to all DA cases across both Lincoln and Boston Magistrates and the Crown Court.

The role may require you to liaise with out of county courts in the best interest of the client.

The Court IDVA will ensure victims and survivors have the right support needed to proceed through the justice process, advocating on their behalf where appropriate.

The IDVA will attend the Specialist Domestic Abuse Court (SDAC) at Lincoln Magistrates Court to improve our response to victims of domestic abuse. The SDAC is currently fortnightly but has the potential to increase to a weekly court due to the number of cases.

You will explain the Criminal and Civil Justice System to clients and support them at every stage of the proceedings. You will explain the processes involved and help clients understand the legal terminology. You will provide information around issues such as bail conditions, civil orders, charging decisions and sentencing outcomes.

The Court IDVA will have excellent communication skills to promote the role and provide verbal and written feedback.

This is a unique offer and one that will require expert knowledge of the CJS, victims of DA and ensure safe and effective advocacy.

  • The role will include managing internal cases that are transferred via both LDASS, Adult Intervention and Community IDVA team. (Offer to all victims that are going through the court to include standard, medium and high risk clients).

  • Additionally the role requires you to identify victims that may never have come to the attention of EDAN Lincs but will be accessing the courts as a victim. The court IDVA will use internal CJS processes to offer victims support through the court and consider appropriate risk management and referrals where applicable.

  • The Court IDVA offers both emotional and practical support to ensure safe and effective support during criminal justice SDAC and Family courts.


  • We are looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic individual to join our dedicated IDVA team to provide support and crisis intervention to those going through the criminal justice system as a victim/witness.

    All applicants must have a sound understanding of the effects of domestic abuse and experience of working with crisis intervention. You will be expected to provide a pro-active, short term service in a multi-agency framework, within the criminal justice system and have an acute knowledge of the CJS and family courts.

    The successful candidate will be part of the IDVA service, sharing information within the EDAN Lincs service for clients going through the criminal courts process, signposting clients to support services, risk assessing and being the victim/witnesses advocate in court.

    The nature of this role requires the successful candidate to have skills in navigating key professionals within the courts and communicating directly to ensure the voice of the victim. Additionally you will be required to attend professional meetings to provide updates on service deliverables, overcome challenges and meet needs of our client.

    This role requires and good level of IT skills to work across systems and processes.

    The successful applicant will be expected to undertake and achieve SafeLives National Training for IDVAs.

    NVQ level 4 or equivalent experience is required.
