Full Job Description

The Data Assurance & Engineering Consultant reports into the Data Services Director and has responsibility for the implementation of products and services that CDS uses in order to build data solutions for our customers.

This role is also responsible for supporting the Data Assurance and Engineering Lead to ensure that all CDS databases, whether customer or internal, are resilient, secure and performant.

This is a hybrid role, focusing on Data Engineering, Data Migration and Database Administration

This is a technical and customer facing role, at all times focusing on the creation and measurement of value to our customers, whether external or internal.

Accountabilities

  • All data assurance and engineering work undertaken by CDS adheres to our frameworks & provides measurable value to our customers.

  • Relationships with customers, vendors and contractors are conducted under our "One Team" ethos.

  • All implemented data solutions are secure, resilient, monitored and performant.


  • Responsibilities
  • Development and implementation of data assurance and engineering solutions for customers.

  • Creation and maintenance of best practice and execution frameworks for data engineering:


  • Data Migration strategy

  • Data Migration execution

  • ETL strategy / design and implementation

  • Data modelling

  • Performance / Cost optimization


  • Implementation and adhering to frameworks for data assurance:


  • Database tooling / design

  • Data Governance

  • Data Quality

  • Security & Resilience

  • Monitoring / Usage forecasting


  • Contribute to the development of designs and proofs of concept to support the commercial / bids teams.

  • Maintaining alignment with infrastructure services.

  • Challenging assumptions and using data driven decision making to provide the optimal balance between theory and practicality.

  • Keeping up to date with the latest capabilities and trends

    Experience of using ETL tools including but not limited to SSIS, Data Factory and Data Bricks to implement complex data loading and transformation processes.

  • Building infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources.

  • Experience in relational database design and implementation both on prem and cloud based.

  • Understanding of security and quality models within database environments

  • Demonstrable experience of query optimization within different scenarios

  • Optimize data delivery, designing for resilience, scalability and future proofing.

  • Experience of Azure and AWS data products is desirable but not essential
