Full Job Description

Reporting to our Area Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing our front of house team, to ensure a fantastic guest dining experience at The Deli. You'll enjoy speaking and engaging with our customers and be responsible for maintaining excellent standards of food safety, presentation and creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere within our dining areas. With the happiness of our guests being paramount, you'll monitor and identify areas for training or improvement within your team to consistently deliver an exceptional dining experience.,

  • Regular floor walking throughout service to monitor cleanliness standards and ensuring that all front of house areas meet the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

  • Ensure the accuracy of signage and communication to guests regarding allergens. Ensuring the front of house team are able to communicate allergens correctly to guests.

  • Delivering smooth, efficient day to day operations, delivering exceptional service for guests and visitors

  • Overseeing all aspects of front-of-house during meal services, ensuring the dining room environment is well-presented, stocked and maintained throughout

  • Ensure excellent customer service is acknowledged, whilst investigating and acting on service failings for ongoing improvement

  • Oversee preparations and cleaning pre- and post-service.

  • Be the first port of call for guests including capturing guest feedback onsite on the quality of food and service. Responding to guest queries, questions, and complaints during service.

  • Close collaboration and communication with the kitchen team to ensure efficient service.

  • Providing support to the team during service and busy periods to ensure the smooth running of the Deli.

  • Continuous assessment and review of ways-of-working. Working with the Area Manager to suggest new approaches where necessary.

  • Escalation of issues and complaints to ensure they are dealt with appropriately.

  • Ensuring that all front of house areas are compliant with 5 star EHO standards at all times.

  • Stock management and ordering, in line with company budgets and seasonal targets.

  • Working with the Area manager and Kitchen teams to come up with new ideas for specials, events and other seasonal opportunities and offers.


  • Team Management responsibilities:
  • Ensuring that team members are working in line with brand standards and adhering to company rules, as per their employee handbook.

  • Responsible for the recruitment and onboarding of new team members.

  • Providing line management and training of teams, to ensure front of house colleagues have the required skills and knowledge to deliver high quality guest experience.

  • Delegate tasks effectively to ensure the smooth running of service.

  • Providing on-the-job coaching and feedback to develop individuals and manage performance accordingly.

  • Writing and overall management of Front of House rotas and timesheets. Ensuring all holiday and sickness is recorded and managed appropriately.

  • Ensuring that all team members are adequately supported and any personal issues are dealt with appropriately and confidentially.

    For this role, we are looking for someone with an understanding of fast paced catering, excellent knowledge of food, dietary and allergen safety, and has previous experience of managing and training a team of over 10 employees. A qualification in Food Safety and Allergen Management is desirable for this position, but not essential. These qualifications will be organised and paid for, for the successful candidate., Previous Management experience of 2+ years in a hospitality environment

    Born from a love of great food, The Deli is an independent Delicatessen originally located in the heart of Ingatestone. Back in 2009, The Deli was born as a little, family run sandwich shop serving eggs on toast and bacon sandwiches. Fast forward fourteen years, and our little village shop is now a bustling local breakfast & lunch spot, and we proudly launched our second Deli spot over in Warley, in January 2022. We recently launched our newest brunch spot opening in Chelmsford, in early April 2023. Famous for our homemade sausage rolls and made to order, fresh sandwiches, The Deli has something for everyone.

    'The Deli' group is looking for an experienced & enthusiastic Front of House Manager to join our ever-growing team. The successful applicant will be based at our newest brunch spot in Hylands Park, Chelmsford.

    This a full-time position, at 40 hours per week. All shifts are daytime shifts, with no evenings, late nights or split shifts. You will be required to work Saturdays & Sundays.
