Full Job Description

1. Support the HR Manager to provide a comprehensive in-house HR service to the business and to champion people issues within the business.

2. Develop and maintain collaborative and productive working relationships with all stakeholders, establishing professional credibility.

3. Work closely with managers to provide commercially focussed and pragmatic support, advice, training and guidance for line managers on all matters relating to employee relations and performance. This will include, but is not limited to probation, appraisals, succession planning, performance issues, disciplinary and grievance procedures and attendance management. Ensuring all operational activity is carried out in line with policy and process in a timely manner.

4. Providing feedback, training and support to managers where policy and procedure issues could have been better managed to achieve continuous improvement in the line managers HR process skills.

5. Assisting with administration of HR related matters to ensure that all tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Document management to the highest standards will be required.

6. Provide ER Case management to ensure the Company is in the best possible position in all cases.

7. Recognise best practice within the business and encourage sharing.

8. Supporting managers in the Amberstone Colleague Development Program to ensure that meetings are effective and productive.

9. Driving excellence in recruitment, training and development in the organisation to equip the business with the human resources to meet current and future needs.

10. Creating, developing, maintaining and advising on and acting as a guardian of all HR policies and procedures.

11. Undertake HR project work as required to support strategic business goals.

12. Keep yourself up to date with employment law and trends to ensure that your knowledge is current and relevant and share that with the HR team.

This is a new and developing role, this document is intended as a working document and the role will develop over time. A six-monthly review of the job description will take place while the role is evolving - expect two years to finalise it.

  • At least 3 years' experience in HR


  • Desirable:
  • CIPD Level 5


  • Previous work experience required:

    Essential:
  • Generalist HR experience and recent experience of complex HR issues


  • Experience in a similar sector


  • TUPE experience


  • Employment Tribunal experience


  • Desirable:
  • Experience in a service sector with contract management


  • Knowledge and experience:

    Essential:
  • Relevant experience as an HR Advisor or similar, including interpretation of policies and employment law and providing advice to line managers.


  • Track record of implementation of improvements and introducing initiatives to an organisation.


  • Knowledge of and application of employment law


  • Experience of using HRMS and interpreting the information to make improvements


  • Good business acumen - understanding of commercial issues and financial issues


  • Change management


  • Personal skills/behaviours/qualities:

    Essential:
  • Highly articulate with excellent communication skills in all media at all levels


  • Ability to demonstrate impact and influence over others without direct authority


  • Touch typing (50 wpm min - will be tested at interview)


  • Good IT skills using Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint (will be tested at interview)


  • Self-motivated with good organisational skills


  • Good emotional intelligence and customer service skills


  • Understanding of employment related costs and how to affect and control them, This role depends on the relationships with line managers for success and so the successful job holder will be able to quickly establish trusting working relationships and to nurture them through open, honest, supportive behaviour. These are often remote relationships.
