Full Job Description

To oversee the entire light, sound, staging and technical aspects of all events at our venue inclusive of client, promoter and tour manager liaison.

Reporting directly to the Venue Manager and working alongside relevant department heads to ensure the smooth running of the show, sound checks and schedule of the event.

Working alongside many high-profile comics and musicians to deliver a great experience for our loyal customers in a vibrant and exciting venue.

The role is primarily evening based (5-6pm starts) but 12pm starts may be required for music gigs. Typical 4-6 hour shift for comedy shows, and 8-10 hour shifts for music gigs. This is a show based role - if there is a show in our programme, you will be required. This includes every Friday & Saturday throughout the year, and various other shows during the week. Typically 3-5 days a week. During peak season 5-7 days.

The Venue: The Glee Club Cardiff is the only purpose built comedy club in Wales. Our main room has a capacity of 450 seated / 600 standing, and is open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday for our weekly comedy nights, as well as being available to hire to some of biggest names in comedy, music, drag, cabaret and spoken word., To run and oversee the entire sound, lighting and staging aspects of our comedy, music & cabaret shows.

Including:

  • Stage construction / breakdown

  • Sound & Lighting desk operation and programming

  • Rigging of lights / Projectors / Screens

  • Liaising with our Production Co-Ordinator and confirming show tech specs in advance of shows.

  • Maintenance and correct storage of all equipment.

  • Some general building electrical and technical maintenance.

  • Acts and artist hospitality / Dressing room & rider set ups.

  • DJ capabilities for specific events.

  • Show announcements / Audience management.

  • Auditorium set up

    What are we looking for: We are looking for someone with experience in sound and lighting to run the tech for shows at the club. The majority of our shows are simple stand up shows that require a basic knowledge of audio engineering and how to operate a Chamsys lighting desk. We are looking for someone confident, that can stay calm under pressure and can problem solve and troubleshoot if and when things go wrong., Sound engineering: 1 year (required)

  • Light engineer: 1 year (required)

    Pay between £13.07 - £14.57 per hour. We operate a bonus scheme that means if certain targets are hit on shift, you are paid an extra £1.50 per hour for that shift. Hours will vary each week depending on how many shows are on. From Feb - June / Sept - Jan it could be up to 35+ hours a week and then over summer it could be around 10 - 20 hours a week., Job Types: Part-time, Zero hours contract
